Used Book Sale Runs August 3-7

Carnations and books go hand in hand during August in Alliance.

Held in conjunction with the Greater Alliance Carnation Festival, the annual Friends of Rodman Public Library Used Book Sale – one of the largest in the area -- will run from Saturday, August 3 through Wednesday, August 7.

The sale will be held at the Alliance Commons, located at 405 S. Linden Avenue. The site is situated at the corner of High Street and Linden Avenue, just a short walk across Arch Avenue from Rodman Public Library where parking will be available.

Those attending the sale are asked to enter from the Linden Avenue side of the building. Directional signs will be placed throughout the area to help guide shoppers.

Various baskets will also be raffled off as well as two quilts and a lottery board. Tickets are $1 each or six for $5.

New to the sale this year are Christmas gift tags for $1 per pack to go along with Christmas postcards, which come in a pack of 20 for $2. A 20-pack of cards with envelopes will also be available for $3.

More than 10,000 items are available for sale, including books, paperbacks, DVDs, CDs, vinyl records, magazines and some puzzles and board games. More than 75 percent of the items are donated and 80 percent is nonfiction in many popular categories, including history, biography, science, cooking, crafts, travel, religion, art, photography, business and much more. Also, a large variety of children’s books will be available as well as a selection of collectible books, a list of which is available at rodmanlibrary.com/collectibles.

Hardback books are $1 each and paperbacks are 50 cents each. Children’s books are 25 cents each or 5 for $1. Magazines are 10 cents each, or 12 for $1. Books on CD are $3 per box; CDs and DVDs are $1 per disc; and vinyl records are 25 cents per disc.              

As usual, the sale kicks off on Saturday during the festival, which will be August 3 from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. and will be for Friends of Rodman Public Library members only. Memberships will be available at the door and will cost $5 for individuals 15 years and older. A patron membership is also available for $25 and more.

The sale will continue from 1 to 5 p.m. on Sunday, August 4 as well as 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. the following three days, August 5 through August 7.

On Tuesday only, visitors who make a purchase will earn an entry to win a chair and ottoman generously donated by Grove Appliance.

On the final day, Wednesday, August 7, shoppers will be able to pay all day by donation.

Cash, checks and credit cards will be accepted, but there will be a 4 percent processing fee on all cards.
