Kids Book Club (July 17)
[Everything You Need to Know About the Kids Book Club]
Kids Book Club is for ages 8 to 12. In June, young readers can choose to attend at either 11 a.m. or 6 p.m. Each session includes a brief book discussion, a game and/or activity as well as a snack. Books are available for extended checkout.
The July 17 selection is Percy Jackson & The Olympians: The Lightning Thief (either the novel or the graphic novel) by Rick Riordan
Registration is required to attend.

Play Group
Play Group is offered at 6:30 p.m. on Mondays and at 10:30 a.m. on Wednesdays through July 24.
All ages are welcome, but the group is recommended for children, ages birth through 5.
Board books and toys are available for the children to play with while coffee and tea are offered to the adults, who supervise and socialize.
A librarian will be in attendance at all times, but a parent or caregiver must be present with his or her child.
No registration is necessary.
World Travel Storytime (at the Branch)
The Rodman Branch Library will take children around the globe through stories and songs this summer when it hosts World Travel Storytime.
The 45-minue program will be held weekly on Tuesdays between June 4 and July 30. Identical storytimes will be held at 10:30 a.m. and again at 11:30 a.m.
In keeping with the 2024 Summer Reading Program theme of Adventure Begins at Your Library, children will learn about the customs and food of a different country each week through stories, songs, crafts, and games, with a little bit of science thrown in.
The summer’s itinerary includes:
June 4 – United States.
June 11 – Great Britain (dress fancy for the tea party).
June 18 – Belgium.
June 25 – Italy (special guest).
July 2 – Egypt.
July 9 – China.
July 16 – Australia.
July 23 – Antarctica.
July 30 – Brazil (Carnaval celebration).
At the end of each storytime, children will receive a brag tag with the country on it to add to their necklaces with the others they’ve earned during storytimes of previous years.
No registration is required at attend storytime.

Camp Shenanigans
Discover delightful stories, silly songs, exciting games, and other fun activities inspired by traditional summer camp experiences. Children ages 6-12 are invited to join on Tuesday evenings from June 4 to July 23. The program begins at 6:30 p.m. each week at the main library.
No registration is required.

Book Fest & Crafts
Book Fest, a half hour filled with fun, is held every Thursday from June 6 thorugh July 18 inside the Rodman Auditorium.
Starting at 10:30 a.m., each week features a different special activity or special guest.
The schedule includes:
June 6 -- Knot Tying with Scout Troop 205G.
June 13 -- Rodman Children's Department
June 20 -- Stuffed Animal Pet Show (bring a plushie friend)
June 27 -- Upside Down Fairy Tales with Auntie Kayte
July 4 -- Library Closed
July 11 -- Magic Myths in the Forest with The Wiulderness Center
July 18 -- Book Fest Olympics
No registration is required for the free program.
An hour of crafts from 11 a.m. to noon are held in the children's program room following each Book Fest session.

Movie Matinee: Kung Fu Panda 4 (July 13)
Rodman Public Library will screen Kung Fu Panda 4 on the big screen inside the Main Auditorium at 1 p.m. on Saturday, July 13.
The film, which is rated PG, runs 96 minutes.
All movies are free at RPL and fresh popcorn is provided, thanks to Friends of Rodman Public Library. Registration is not required. All ages are welcome to attend, but children under 13 must be accompanied by an adult caregiver.
BINGO (July 15)
Kids, ages 6-12, are invited to play BINGO at 6 p.m. on Monday, July 15.
Prizes will be awarded to winners.
The program, supported by the Friends of Rodman Public Library, is free. Space is limited and registration is required.
Tabletop Gaming (July 24)
Feeling bored?
Try playing some new board games at Rodman Public Library’s Tabletop Gaming.
The popular all-ages program returns to the Main Library at 5:30 p.m. on Wednesday, July 24
Each month, a new game will be featured so that patrons can learn a new game. Of course, other games available in the library’s collection will also be available and visitors are always welcome to bring their own games.
The aim of the family program is to give area residents an opportunity to gather with others to play their favorite card and board games and make new friends.
Light snacks will be offered and no registration is required to attend the monthly program.
Although the program is open to players of all ages, children under 13 should be accompanied by an adult.

Dragon Training Academy (July 26)
Children are invited to Rodman Public Library on Friday, July 26 to take part in a Dragon Training Academy with world-renowned steampunk time traveler and inventor Brock Barnabas.
The program will be held twice, once at 4:30 p.m. and again at 6 p.m. The programs are identical and children should register for just one of the two sessions.

With his latest invention, the "Time Travel Trunk," Barnabas will visit Rodman Library to recruit some adventurous kids to travel back to Medieval times. First, however, he will have to train the kids to defend against and tame down dragons using his amazing science-based inventions and techniques.
Upon completion of their training, Brock Barnabas prepares to transport the kids to the past but inadvertently draws a dragon to the present.
Kids will need to use their newly-learned skills to deal with the dragon in the room.
Join Brock Barnabas on an adventure, as he uses not only his many inventions of science, but brings elements of humor, high energy, creative play, and (of course) realistic looking animatronic puppets to the stage for an experience like no other.
The program is supported by Friends of Rodman Public Library.

Kids Gaming (August 7)
Kids Gaming is held on the first Wednesday of each month at Rodman Public Library in the Main Library Auditorium. From 4 to 5 p.m., children, ages 8-12, are treated to open play of video games, Minecraft, etc. on devices provided by the library. The next session is Wednesday, August 7. Early literacy stations for children
Rodman Public Library has two Advanced Workstations in Education, Inc. (AWE) Early Literacy Stations and desks for the Main Children's Department and one station available at the Branch. One bilingual Spanish computer is available at each the Main Library and the Branch. Read more

Rodman Public Library's 1000 Books Before Kindergarten initiative for families with children ages 0-5 is designed to help parents prepare their children for one of life’s big milestones: starting kindergarten. Research has shown that children get ready to read years before they begin their formal education, and an excellent way to get children ready to learn is to read to them.
