Two new book groups are making a debut at Rodman Public Library in April -- Cookbook Club and I Read YA.
COOKBOOK CLUB
As the adult circulation manager at Rodman Public Library and the facilitator of the Maker Monday program, Debbie Mikesell has a lot on her plate.
Now she wants to help put something delicious on yours.
A cooking enthusiast for more than 30 years, Mikesell is forming a Cookbook Club at RPL. The monthly meeting will kick off on Tuesday, April 30 at 6 p.m. with plans to meet on the last Tuesday of each month.
“I am excited to start this new program,” said Mikesell. “This is an opportunity for people who like to cook to come together, have some fun, and share some techniques, tips, and tricks that they have learned in the kitchen.”
Each month, Mikesell will pick a popular cookbook that will serve as the selection. Those planning to take part in that month’s meeting will come to the Main Library to borrow a copy of the cookbook. Each participant will choose any recipe in that book to make or bake at home. Participants should inform Mikesell by email or phone which dish they intend to make.
When the group gathers for its meeting, each cook will talk about their experience following their chosen recipe. They can share how easy or difficult it was, what they did differently, what they might do differently the next time, or how they think it could be changed.
Participants are also welcome to bring small samples of what they made for others to try, but are not required to do so. Participants will not be required to sample anything, if they do not wish to do so.
The cookbook chosen for April is the Taste of Home All-American Cookbook.

I READ YA
Rodman Public Library’s Jaime Gross enjoys reading novels written for younger audiences, those books with the red YA labels on the spine.
The reference librarian knows there are other adults who share her interest in Young Adult literature.
She aims to bring some of them together for monthly discussions as the facilitator of a new book club at RPL – I Read YA.
The first meeting is set for 6:30 p.m. om Monday, April 1 with Cinder by Marissa Meyer as the selected title.
“There are many good YA books out there and adults who enjoy reading them,” said Gross. “This new book discussion group will give those of us who really enjoy the YA genre of literature a chance to meet, discuss our favorite books, and discover new ones. Anyone who likes this style of literature is welcome to come to our group.”
Regular meetings will be held every first Monday of the month at 6:30 p.m. Patrons who wish to participate are welcome to pick and choose which meetings they attend. Registration is required to attend at rodmanlibrary.com
The title for the May 6 meeting is The Inheritance Games by Jennifer Lynn Barnes, while the selection for the June 3 meeting is An Ember in the Ashes by Sabaa Tahir.
