Mount Union football players move books as sale approaches

Members of the Mount Union football team moved a mountain on Tuesday.

Box by box, approximately a dozen Purple Raiders moved what is believed to amount to more than 25,000 items from the basement of Rodman Public Library to the Alliance Neighborhood Center.

Also helping were several community members who donated their time and vehicles to move the books and other items down High Street and across Arch Avenue.

The reason for the move is the Friends of Rodman Public Library’s annual Used Book Sale. Instead of holding the event at the library, the Neighborhood Center, located at 405 S. Linden Ave., will be the host venue this year due to the amount of books, magazines, CDs, DVDs, vinyl records and audiobooks that are available for sale this year.

The larger space will allow the Friends of Rodman Public Library to put out more material at one time and will give the public more room to peruse the vast selection available at the popular event, which will be held Aug. 7-11 in conjunction with the Greater Alliance Carnation Festival.

Saturday, Aug. 7 will be a members only day, with memberships to Friends of Rodman Public Library available at the door, from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. The sale will run from 1 to 5 p.m. on Sunday, Aug. 8. Monday through Wednesday, Aug 9-11, the sale will run from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. On Wednesday only, patrons will be able to fill a bag and make a donation all day.
